PESHAWAR: A private university here has come under fire on social media for allowing a foreign singer to perform at an event on its premises.

The singing performance, which sparked widespread outrage on social media, came at the end of a three-day Hunar Mela organized by the Thirteen Event Planners at the premises of the private NCS University in the capital. provincial.

Following the outrage, the Khyber Medical University (KMU) issued a show cause notice to the private university, asking it to explain its position within three days regarding the conduct of “unethical activities and immoral on its premises”.

Videos widely shared on social media showed a singer in a tight dress singing on campus. Social media users blasted the university for allowing the show on its premises.

Later, the director of the institute, Dr. Shaukat Ali, in a message posted on the university’s Facebook page, apologized for the faxu pas and accused the event planner of causing the problem. .

He said that following the three-day Hunar Mela, which celebrated Pakistani craftsmanship, a performance by a foreign singer was held, which was in violation of Pakistani values ​​and culture. He said the event organizer did not inform them of the singer’s performance.

Meanwhile, the KMU, to which the NCS is affiliated, asked in a letter for the university to explain its position within three days, failing which it would be disaffiliated.

KMC said it took “unethical and immoral activity” on campus seriously, in which a young girl could be seen dancing at a college ceremony in a video that went viral on social media.

“Carrying out such activities with KMU’s logo and name on stage is completely wrong. All educational institutions are required to maintain ethical and moral standards and the sanctity of institutes during curricular and extracurricular activities,” he said.
