Arijit Singh’s timeline, from contestant to most beloved singer of all time
As soon as we hear “Arijit Singh”, his heartfelt love songs, which captivated the nation, come to mind first. It is said that even bachelors start to miss their non-existent mate when they hear Arijit Singh because of the power of his voice! He has received many awards for his magnificent performances in various Indian languages. He is often called “the voice of our generation”. But few of us know the life story of this popular singer. Singh’s mentors thought he would be more successful if he left his hometown and entered important tournaments that would bring attention to himself. He didn’t have as many opportunities in his small village as he did in Mumbai, India’s entertainment capital. For this reason, 18-year-old Arijit Singh participated in the reality show Fame Gurukul in 2005. But he only managed to place sixth.
However, his potential was discovered and he sang “Yun Shabnami” for the next film Saawariya by famous filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. But that wasn’t to be, as script changes led to the song being dropped from the film. Later, he signed a recording contract with Tips Music for one album, but it was eventually canceled. For Singh, it was as if every meaningful chance ended in failure. It is obvious that his career had a difficult start.
Despite this series of misfortunes, Singh remained committed to his goal and never gave up. He made several choices that ultimately changed the course of his life and career. To take advantage of all the possibilities, he moved permanently to Mumbai, where he lived in a small room and worked as a freelance musician. He then tried his luck again on television and took part in the reality TV competition 10 Ke 10 Le Gaye Dil, which he won. Her music career really took off after she opened her own recording studio with the Rs 10 lakh prize money!
The next step for Singh was to collaborate with well known Indian musicians like Pritam, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Sachin-Jigar and Vishal-Shekhar. He started singing for Telugu and Bollywood films in 2010 and was well-liked by Indian audiences and fellow musicians. Some of Singh’s early films brought his melodic voice to include Murder 2, Shanghai, 1920: Evil Returns, Players, Cocktail, and Barfi!
However, Arijit Singh’s vocals for the movie Aashiqui 2 is what made him popular across the country. He had to perform most of the songs of the hero portrayed by Aditya Roy Kapoor because it was a musical. However, Singh rose to prominence through his passionate rendition of the song Tum Hi Ho, which captured the hearts of the whole country.
