Celebrities positive for Covid: Dada Sana’s daughter, Telugu star Lakshmi Machu and singer John Mayer contract the virus

2022 started on a gloomy note after the Department of Health declared the third wave of Covid to arrive on Wednesday.

The country saw a major spike of 90,928 Covid cases in India in a single day in 24 hours compared to 58,097 cases on Wednesday. The number of infections at Omicron climbed to 2,630 across the country on Thursday with a jump of 495 cases in a single day.

With 15,166 cases in Mumbai, the financial capital is turning into a hotspot for the Covid. Many celebrities and personalities have also contracted the infection since the last month.

Varun Sood of ‘Roadies’ fame became the latest celebrity to test positive for Covid on Thursday. His girlfriend and “Bigg Boss OTT” winner Divya Agarwal also shared an update that she did not contract the virus. Sood has been quarantined in another house.

Earlier today, Lakshmi Manchu, the actress-daughter of veteran actor Mohan Babu, also joined the list of celebrities diagnosed with the deadly virus.

Days after India Cricket Control Board (BCCI) Chairman Sourav Ganguly recovered from Covid, his daughter Sana tested positive and is in home isolation.

Sana, who is asymptomatic, was tested for a sore throat. However, Ganguly’s wife Dona tested negative.

Three other members of the Ganguly family are also infected with the virus. All were asymptomatic and are isolated in their residence in Kolkata.

Last month Ganguly was hospitalized after contracting the infection and was discharged on December 31 after testing negative for the Omicron variant. He was hospitalized twice last year and underwent emergency angioplasty after suffering heart problems.

Various celebrities in the television industry have also revealed their Covid status.

Bigg Boss 12 contestant Srishty Rode also contracted the infection on Wednesday. She is in self-isolation at home with mild symptoms.

The “Yeh Ishq Haaye” star was recently spotted partying with actors Ankita Lokhande, Ashita Dhawan and Mishthi Tyagi, among others.

TV actor Sharad Malhotra of ‘Vidrohi’ fame also tested positive for Covid, after which the filming location was fumigated. The actor is receiving medical treatment and is in home quarantine.

‘Kuch Rang Pyar Ke Aise Bhi’ star Erica Fernandes, along with her mother, have also tested positive for the coronavirus.

The laryngitis-prone actress developed a cough and sore throat on Sunday, after which she received home kits and tested herself. She further claimed that these tests were “unreliable at all” as she was negative three times.

The actor of “Kasautii Zindagii Kay” further assured that she and her mother were “isolated and cared for”.

Chhoti Sarrdaarni’s veteran actress Anita Raaj has also tested positive, but there has been no confirmation from her.

Sonu Nigam, his wife Madhurima and son Nevaan, who contracted the virus in Dubai and are now in home quarantine, added to the list of Covid positives on Wednesday.

The singer had a busy schedule in India, when he got tested several times. Nigam has revealed that his sister-in-law, music composer Jeet Ganguly and lyricist Raj Shekhar have also contracted the virus.

Tamil actor Arun Vijay, also known as Arun Kumar, contracted Covid on Wednesday and is in home quarantine. He is currently awaiting the release of director Hari’s “Yaanai” and director Arivazhagan’s “Border”.

Meanwhile, singer-turned-politician Babul Supriyo has recovered from the infection for the third time and is released from a Kolkata hospital. The leader of TMC was fully vaccinated, but exhibited some symptoms before diagnosis.

The former Union minister tested positive for the first time in November 2020. His mother then succumbed to the deadly virus. He was later diagnosed for the second time in April 2021.

Many celebrities and international figures also contracted the infection this week.

Singer John Mayer has also tested positive for Covid and has canceled his performance as the frontman of Dead and Company at the Playing in the Sand festival, “Variety” reports.

The event opens Friday, January 7 on the Cancun Riviera in Mexico.

Mayer is the second member of Dead and Company to have to bow out.

Earlier, drummer Bill Kreutztmann had announced that he would not be attending the festival either, citing a doctor’s advice. Kreutztmann had recently admitted to health issues after leaving a fall concert at the Hollywood Bowl midway through the show.

“Late Night” host Seth Meyers confirmed on Tuesday evening that he had tested positive for Covid and canceled his shows for the coming week. The comedian has been fully vaccinated and has also received the booster.

The news comes a day after “The Tonight Show” host and fellow “Saturday Night Live” alumnus Jimmy Fallon announced he tested positive while on vacation.



Indian-Canadian actress Lilly Singh has also fallen prey to Covid. On Tuesday, the virus is causing fatigue and has been a challenge for her.
