Former ICED EARTH Singer MATT BARLOW Says Brother-In-Law/Ex-Bandmate JON SCHAFFER Is “Okay” Over US Capitol Riot Accusations – “We’re Not Talking About That Kind things” ; Video

While promoting his project’s new album Ashes Of Ares, Matt Barlow was asked during an interview with Greek TV if he had been in touch with his former bandmate and brother-in-law. Iced Earth, Jon Schaffer, since Schaffer’s arrest for his involvement in the United States Capitol riots on January 6, 2021.

In April 2021, Schaffer admitted to raping the U.S. Capitol, wearing a tactical vest and armed with bear repellent, and pleaded guilty to obstructing official process and entering and remaining in a building or restricted terrain with a lethal or dangerous weapon.

Keeping his response short and sweet, Matt said (see below): “Well, I talked to Jon but, you know, we don’t talk about that stuff. So he’s fine. I mean , he is my brother-in-law.”

Nine years after their formation, legendary heavy metal duo Ashes Of Ares have released their third studio album, Emperors And Fools.

This album sees Matt Barlow and Freddie Vidales take the darkness and aggressiveness of their previous album, Well Of Souls, to the next level. The writing process began almost immediately after Well Of Souls was released. As usual, it was a truly collaborative effort between the two, with ideas coming from one or the other, then evolving and refining to what is featured on Emperors And Fools.

The album’s flow is designed to keep listeners nervous while taking them from fast, heavy and punchy anthems to dark, melancholic and emotional tracks. The album ends with the eleven-minute epic “Monster’s Lament” which showcases the long-imagined joining of forces between Matt Barlow and Tim “Ripper” Owens.

Emperors And Fools was released on a digipak CD, a limited Turquoise/Black Splatter vinyl (300 copies worldwide), a limited Red/Black Splatter vinyl (300 copies worldwide), and a digital streaming and download format.

• Produced by Ashes of Ares
