Malaysian singer Eison Chai falls from building in Taipei on August 17

Taiwan-based Malaysian singer Eison Chai has died after falling from a building in New Taipei City.

He was only 40 years old and had planned to throw a wedding banquet.

Police investigations are currently underway.

Eison Chai’s body found at Luzhou MRT station at 10 a.m.

Straits Time (ST) reports that on Wednesday August 17, Mr. Chai fell from the Luzhou MRT station building in New Taipei City around 10 a.m.

He died on the spot. Luzhou Precinct police confirmed that investigations into his death were ongoing.

In 2020, the singer married Taiwanese actress Hitomi Wang. The couple are planning to hold their wedding banquet in Malaysia very soon.

Mr. Chai’s management agency confirmed his death and asked the public to respect his wife’s privacy.

ST says that during a live broadcast of a karaoke session on Sunday August 14, Mr Chai chose to sing a range of mournful tunes.

Among them was Andy Lau’s Forget Love Potion, an infamous song.

ENSEMBLE Newsa Taiwanese news portal, reports that Mr Chai also lost S$230,000 (NT$5 million) after investing in a restaurant in Ximending.

Locked himself in his room before he died

Prior to his death, his wife, Ms. Wang, worked in Yilan and had asked two of her friends to take care of her husband due to his apparently discouraged mood.

He had locked himself in a room, making them assume he was just resting inside. However, they soon realized the truth when they heard the sound of sirens sounding downstairs. Authorities found no suicide note.

Most famous for winning the second season of the popular talent show Super Idol in 2009, Mr. Chai has an impressive repertoire of numerous albums.

He was also recognized for his roles in Taiwanese dramas such as Rookie’s Diary from 2010 to 2011 and Feng Shui Family from 2012 to 2014.
