One of two defendants arrested in connection with the kidnapping and murder of a 28-year-old Haryanvi singer in the capital resented the victim for sending him to jail for rape, police said on Wednesday.

The duo – Ravi, 29, and Anil aka Mohit – planned to kill the woman around two to three weeks ago. They added 10 sleeping pills to his sugarcane juice before strangling him and then buried his body in Meham in Haryana, police said.

A senior police officer said the victim, a resident of Jaffarpur Kalan in Dwarka, filed a rape complaint against Ravi in 2019, leading to his arrest. “Ravi was released on bail about eight months ago to meet his family. He wanted the woman. He said she took money from him and didn’t give it back,’ the officer said. During the interrogation, Anil told the police that the woman was trying to extort money from her friend (Ravi) for making a music video and that they were tired of the constant fights for the money. , said the officer.

Both defendants were taken into custody, police said.

past relationship

Ravi told police he was in a relationship with the woman but had to break up with her because her family was against their relationship. “But Ravi continued to harass her and forced himself on her, after which the woman filed a rape complaint,” the officer said.

DCP (Dwarka) Shankar Choudhary said he found the woman’s burnt clothes and mobile phone 40-50 km from where she was buried. “Ravi had approached a person named Dawood who arranged a car for him. He then sent Anil to pick up the woman under the guise of taking her to a music video shoot in Rohtak,” the officer said.

The woman’s family members are still protesting against the police, alleging they failed to investigate the rape charges brought by them. They also alleged police inaction. Senior officers, however, denied any inaction and said police investigated the matter and recovered the body in time.
