Piyush Goyal shares ‘Kacha Badam’ singer’s meme as India adds 10 unicorns in 53 days

Trade and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal took to Twitter on Wednesday to share a before-and-after unicorn meme featuring peanut seller Bhuban Badyakar, which has gone viral for the song “Kacha Badam”.

A company valued at over US$1 billion is called unicorn.

On Tuesday, software company Hasura announced that it had secured $100 million in funding led by Greenoaks with participation from existing investors Nexus Venture Partners, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Vertex Ventures.

The “Series C” round brings Hasura’s total capital raised to $136.5 million and the company’s valuation to $1 billion, putting it in the “unicorn” league.

Hasura plans to use the funding to accelerate research and development and expand go-to-market activities globally for the company’s “GraphQL Engine.”

Hasura has been downloaded more than 400 million times and earned more than 25,000 “GitHub” stars since its introduction in 2018, it said in a statement.

It is designed to accelerate web application development by eliminating data access bottlenecks for frontend and fullstack developers.

The 2021-22 economic study had also mentioned that the number of such companies had increased considerably over the past six years.

A record 44 Indian start-ups achieved unicorn status last year, bringing the total number of such firms in the country to 83, and most of them are in the service sector, the study finds. economic.
