Mumbai actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh’s next film ‘Jogi’ is based on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and he says the incident should be called ‘genocide’. On October 31, 1984, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was assassinated by her Sikh bodyguards. Dosanjh, who was born in January of the same year, told PTI in an interview: “We shouldn’t call it a riot, the correct word for it is genocide. When there is a bilateral fight between people, it is called a riot. In my opinion, this should be called genocide. “Jogi”, Ali Abbas Zafar’s Hindi feature film, will depict the suffering of the Sikh community in the nation’s capital following the assassination of Indira Gandhi. Dosanjh, who plays the film’s main character, says the film is a “collective” portrayal of real events that happened in 1984.

Dosanjh said, “It’s not that it happened to one or a few people. I know this incident happened to all of us collectively. If I talk about certain incidents, it will be personal. We talk about it collectively in the film. I’ve been listening since I was born and we still live with those memories today. The film ‘Jogi’ will be broadcast on the OTT Netflix platform from September 16 (Friday).

“Netflix” is an “over the top” (OTT) platform that provides movies and other digital content (content) via the Internet. Apart from Diljit Dosanjh, Mohammad Zeeshan Ayyub and Hiten Tejwani, ‘Jogi’ also starred Kumud Mishra and Amyra Dastur. Director Zafar produced the film in association with Himanshu Kishan Mehra.
