British producers have already held the first round of auditions in Sydney for the demanding lead role, according to promoter Paul Dainty.

The hit musical Tina, based on the life story of rock star Tina Turner, will hit the stage in Australia with a local cast and crew.

“We’re very optimistic that we’ll find some great Tinas,” he told AAP.

“There have been a few in London because you need a few. We are very confident that we will have a dynamite cast.

The show premiered in the British capital in 2018 and broke box office records.

Known as the queen of rock ‘n’ roll, Tina Turner has sold over 100 million records and collected 12 Grammy awards.

Growing up in an abusive household and escaping an abusive marriage to her first husband and musical partner Ike Turner, she rose to international stardom as a solo performer in her 40s with the hit album Private Dancer in 1984.

Mr Dainty became involved in the musical project seven years ago – before there was a script or star contracts signed – believing Tina Turner’s life story would make a show at success when combined with his songs.

“You laugh together, you cry together, you get emotional and hear these incredible songs woven throughout the show, which few musicals are able to deliver,” he said.

Tina Turner has a long relationship with Australia, having first visited the country in the 1970s.

She starred opposite Mel Gibson in the 1985 film Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, while her hit song The Best has been the soundtrack to memorable National Rugby League campaigns.

“Australia has always shared abundant love with me… It is very special to me that we are reunited,” Turner said in a statement on Monday.

“The joy, passion and message of resilience in my musical is more important than ever.

“Thank you from the bottom of my heart for welcoming me back with open arms.”
