Tribute to Bob Saget on Masked Singer US left fans in tears

It was the TV theme night for Wednesday’s episode of US Masked Singer season 8, so it’s fitting that the show pays homage to one of television’s most beloved stars: Bob Saget of Full house celebrity.

Tonight’s three contestants – returning champion Harp and two new artists, Fortune Teller and Mummies – have been tasked with covering some of TV’s best-known theme songs. Harp performed Andrew Gold’s “Thank You For Being a Friend” from golden girls, Fortune Teller performed on Ja’net DuBois’ “Movin’ On Up” The Jeffersons and Mummies, a trio of performers, sang the theme from Monkeys.

But that was Battle Royale’s performance at Full house theme song, “Everywhere You Look” by Jesse Frederick, which had both the jury and viewers dreaming at home. After the mummies were eliminated in the first round and revealed to be Mike Lookinland, Christopher Knight and Barry Williams, aka the iconic brothers of The Brady GroupFortune Teller and Harp went head-to-head with their own renditions of the famous Full house opener. While the former opted for a more traditional version of the theme, Harp slowed it down to an emotional ballad.

It wasn’t the only one Full house reference that will take place during Wednesday’s episode, with Saget co-star Jodie Sweetin, who played Stephanie Tanner on the sitcom, popping up to offer clues.

“Watching you sing that, Harp, and seeing Jodie… somewhere above, our Squiggly Monster friend Bob Saget smiles,” Judge Ken Jeong said, referring to Saget’s Season 4 appearance on The Masked Singer. “That’s what television is for.”

In the end, Harp again emerged as the winner, officially becoming the season’s first semi-finalist. Fortune Teller has been unmasked to reveal Daymond John, founder and CEO of clothing company FUBU and investor in the ABC reality series shark tank. Next week, a whole new batch of competitors will step into the ring to see who will join Harp in the semi-finals.
